    Fire Broke Out In Multi Storied Building

Kolkata, 8th September, 2020: At least five people were trapped and many got injured and a few people took fatal leap when a major fire erupted in a multi-storied building at the early hours of the day yesterday at Baghbazar. 

         The devastating blaze of fire spread across the four blocks of the building in no time. The flames were first noticed on the eastern side of the building’s fourth floor at around 5.30 a.m. The blaze rapidly engulfed the other parts of the building in less than half an hour.

The fourth floor of the building took the full burnt of the fire with the combustible materials inside the building. Panic-stricken people rushed to every corner to find exit but were confronted with flames. According to an eye-witness, a sudden gush of fumes came out with an alarming condition and many people were seen climbing down from the fourth floor holding cables. 

        Preliminary investigations have revealed that an electric short-circuit triggered the blaze and the blast could be attributed to the explosion of air-conditioners. But it has not been found out as to what caused the fire.

Many casualties could have been avoided if fire-fighters had arrived earlier. Six fire tenders brought the situation under control after combating three hours with the fire. The extent of damage is yet to be ascertained.

The rescue teams have found four charred bodies and twenty seven people have been hospitalized with sustained injuries. The residents of the building were soon evacuated. The police officers and government personnel reached the spot to review the situation. The Government has announced a compensation of rupees one lakh to next to kin of the deceased.
