Paragraph on Biography of APJ Abdul Kalam

Mother India has provided many galaxy of stars in India and Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen, popularly known as Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is one of them. APJ Abdul Kalam, an eminent scientist, teacher, administrator was born on 15th October, 1931 in a Tamil Muslim family in Rameswaram, Tamilnadu.

His father was Jainulabdeen was a pious Muslim and his mother Ashiamma was a generous house-wife. He had his early education at Rameswaram Elementary School. He had to sell newspaper in his student life for his financial support.

In 1954, he completed his graduation in Physics from Tiruchirappalli St. Joseph College. In 1960, he went to Madras to study aerospace engineering from the Madras Institute of Technology.

After completing his course, he joined Aeronautical Development Establishment as a scientist. Later in 1969, he joined India Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and became the project director of India’s first indigenous Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-III).

He took vital role in Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in developing many missiles including Agni and Prithvi. In his childhood he had a dream of becoming a pilot in the Indian Air force but later in his life he was popularly known as “Missile Man of India.”

     In 2002, Dr. Kalam became the 11th President of India and was known as the ‘People’s President.’ 

Dr. Kalam received many prestigious awards and honours. In 1981, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan.  He got Padma Vibhushan in 1990. In 1997, he received the highest Indian civilian award, the Bharat Ratna. Besides, he was also bestowed with Doctorate title from different universities around the world. 

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam also famous for his writings like – Wings of Fire, A Vission for New Millennium etc.

    Dr. Kalam was able to rise above caste, creed, religion and had the affluence of knowledge in the Gita and the Koran. He always loved to teach and had said that he would like best to be remembered as a teacher. After his retirement from the Presidential post, Dr. Kalam was engaged as guest lecturer in Shillong, Indore, Ahmedabad, ISRO.

In 2010, the United Nations Organisation (UNO) declared October 15th as the World Students’ Day to honour his efforts on promoting education. Dr. Kalam who loved to work took two holidays in his professional life only on his parents death. Dr. Kalam who was instrumental in the populism of science among the students died on 27th July, 2015 in lecture hall due to cardiac arrest.
