Dum Dum, Kolkata, 8th July,19: The students of XYZ Model School in association with the Kolkata Police observed the “Safe Drive Save Life” programme yesterday with the active presence of the teachers and the Additional Police Commissioner of the state. The day started with a rally along the road in the morning from the school. The students holding placards and posters urged the drivers and the pedestrians to maintain traffic rules for the common good of all. At different crossings, the students played the role of traffic persons, helping the bikers to understand the need of using helmets. The traffic police also helped them in every possible way. The students gave the importance of creating awareness among the drivers and bikers and they requested them to maintain traffic rules in every possible way and not to flaunt them. They also stressed that taking drugs and alcohol should not go side by side at the time of driving car.
At about 1p.m, a seminar was held in the school. The Kolkata Police used a projector to show the students the functions of different signalling systems. The Additional Police Commissioner said, “The Safe Drive Save Life campaign seems to have been effective as the number of death tolls owing to the helmetless two wheelers have been brought down to minimization ever since the campaign was launched”. He also added , “The campaign launched by the honourable Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee is clearly having its impact as the more bikers are wearing their helmets now and the drivers are eager to know the traffic rules and regulations more than before”. On the whole, the day was successful in every way and the activities of the students were highly praised by one and all.
